More about Claire
Hi there!
My name is Claire Mills, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. My journey into this field started earlier than most; I’ve actually known that I wanted to be a therapist since I was in the eighth grade.
I grew up in a military family and in a military town, where I was surrounded by people from many different backgrounds and life experiences. One of the biggest influences on my decision to pursue therapy was a substitute teacher I had growing up who had previously worked as a therapist for the military. Hearing about the work she did and the impact therapy could have on people’s lives sparked my interest in the field. From that moment on, I knew this was something I wanted to pursue.
My interest in working with families and relationships also comes from my own experience growing up in a blended family. Navigating different family dynamics gave me an early understanding of how complex and meaningful our relationships can be. Those experiences helped shape the way I see family systems today and continue to influence my work with clients.
Much of my professional background has been in community mental health, where I worked with individuals and families who were often experiencing crises. In that setting, I helped clients stabilize during difficult seasons of life and connect with important resources within their communities. That work deepened my belief that everyone deserves compassionate support, especially when life feels overwhelming.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I approach therapy through a relational and systemic lens. I believe our relationships and life experiences shape the way we understand ourselves and the world around us. My goal is to create a space where clients feel safe exploring their experiences, gaining insight into patterns in their lives, and building tools that help them move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Some approaches I enjoy incorporating into my work include:
• Systemic and relational therapy
• Bowenian Family Systems Theory
• Emotion-focused couples work
• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
A little about me outside of the therapy room:
I am recently married and enjoying this new season of life! I’m also a proud aunt to three boys and a brand new niece, and I love getting to spend time with them whenever I can. One of my favorite ways to relax is reading. Some of my all-time favorite books include the Harry Potter series, The Count of Monte Cristo, and just about anything written by Emily Henry. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me! If you feel like we might be a good fit or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
